MILLGROVE, Ontario — Knowing he had to do whatever it took to capture the championship coming in tied for the top spot, Jake Sheridan was fast throughout the day en route to winning the Junior Hanley Classic to capture the Grisdale Showdown Championship.
Jake Sheridan started off the day by laying down the quickest lap in qualifying at 15.029 seconds ahead of Shawn Chenoweth (15.076), Ray Morneau (15.084), Shae Gemmell (15.123) and Billy Schwartzenburg (15.182).
Jake Sheridan led early in the first 72-lap feature, but found himself locked in a battle for the top spot with Shawn Chenoweth. Chenoweth got by the No. 52 and managed to hold him off despite Sheridan stalking the No. 89c in the rearview mirror to win the first feature. Shae Gemmell kept his strong season rolling with a third ahead of Blair Wickett and Ray Morneau. Billy Schwartzenburg was sixth in front of Taylor Holdaway, Kevin Albers, Gerrit Tiemersma, and Billy Zardo. Jacob Sutcliffe, Gary Elliott, Kevin Gallant, and Josh Gruntz completed the field.
The second feature left no doubt as Jake Sheridan took the top spot on Lap 2 and drove away from the competition in dominating fashion to pick up the checkered flag ahead of Shawn Chenoweth, Shae Gemmell, Billy Schwartzenburg, and Blair Wickett. Ray Morneau was sixth in front of Gerrit Tiemersma, Taylor Holdaway, Kevin Albers, and Billy Zardo. Jacob Sutcliffe, Kevin Gallant, Gary Elliott, and Josh Gruntz rounded out the field.
Blaise Shaw scored the victory in one of the qualifying heats for the Mini Stocks, allowing him to start up front. Although he faded back early on the drop of the green, he was able to fight his way back up through the field. He would cross the finish line in third-place, though got the win and the igloo after the top-two cars were disqualified in post-race technical inspection.
2026 Mini Stock Track Champion Matt Young was credited with second ahead of Mike Thomson, Bobby Mercer, and Issac Dippel. Roland Goodfellow got scored sixth in front of Andrew Smith, Chris Pendlebury, Brandon Crumbie, and Louis Mehlenbacher. Dustin Goodfellow was 11th, followed by Madisson Tienkamp, Rory Markle, Bob Stewart, Nicole Givens, Mike Baker, Jacob Sutcliffe, and James Houghton. Mike Robinson III and Will Gibbons completed the field.
Heat victories went to Mike Robinson III and Blaise Shaw.
The Pure Stocks were close throughout the event amongst the top-five, with position changes during the 40 lap feature keeping fans on their toes. As the leaders found themselves in traffic, Jo Lawrence’s experience came in handy as he put the No. 28bt car out front and did not look back. Lawrence led the final nine laps en route to picking up the checkered flag and final Pure Stock igloo.
2026 Pure Stock Track Champion Chase Mitchell was second ahead of Matt Young, James Houghton, and Donavin Clark. Spencer Riddell was sixth in front of Gary Slama, Kris Lawrence, Rodney Rutherford, and Brandyn Milligan. Leo Labarbera was 11th, followed by Austin Etsell, Craig Cole, Mark Thorne, Karl Sault, Gary Triska, Jake Watson, Dan Storey, Chance Rogers, and Jordan Willms. Mac Ingram was 21st in front of Rachel Mitchell, Bobby Tolton, Hailey Hill, Megan Mitchell, Tim Tolton, Phil Givens, Rob Hoskins, Wayde Thorne, and William Young.
Heat victories went to Austin Etsell, Chase Mitchell, Leo Labarbera, and Phil Givens, with Rob Hoskins picking up the win in the b-main feature.
The next scheduled event at Flamboro Speedway takes place on Saturday, September 17, with Halloween Enduro 300 and Pure Stock Special.
