INNISFIL, Ontario — In another tough race day this season, SKLD Motorsports looked to overcome the odds for a strong performance on Saturday at Sunset Speedway.
The mechanical issues began to plague the team right from the beginning of the evening in practice, with both Austyn Jennett and Andrew Shilling running into issues. While Jennett’s problems were fixed before qualifying, Shilling’s were too far gone. As a result, the decision was made for Shilling to jump behind the wheel of Karlie Wilman’s entry for the night.
Jennett started off the night by placing fourth in his heat, while Shilling unfortunately ran into issues during his. The team continued to work away, and it paid off with Shilling and Jennett placing third and fifth respectively in the second round of qualifying.
Jennett would start deep in the feature, but was able to make his way forward through the 20-lap affair, making a pass in the final three laps to score a sixth-place finish. Jennett has now scored a top-five and two top-10’s to kick off the 2022 campaign.
Shilling, meanwhile, continued to battle the mechanical gremlins, finding himself inside the top-10 for most of the first half of the event, before fading back to place 11th at the checkered.
