Brandon Passer is backing up his track championship from last season in style, scoring his third Super Stock feature victory of 2022 on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Dan Archibald won the first heat in front of Johnny Morrison, Cory McAllister, Paul Pepper, Tyler Hawn, and Connor Maltese.
The second qualifier featured a quick yellow flag, when Nick Tooley tore the left side bumper cover off of the back of Shawn Chenoweth’s car. Brandon Passer went to victory lane ahead of Gerrit Tiemersma, Matt McGrath, Nick Tooley, and Chenoweth.
The third heat featured some contact when Morrison got sideways while underneath Pepper, resulting in contact between the pair, as well as Archibald into the side of Morrison down the frontstretch. Cory McAllister picked up the checkered flag in front of Hawn, Morrison, Pepper, and Maltese.
Gerrit Tiemersma won the fourth qualifier ahead of Chenoweth, Passer, Tooley, and McGrath.
Come feature time, Dan Archibald started pole in front of Johnny Morrison, Cory McAllister, Brandon Passer, Gerrit Tiemersma, Tyler Hawn, Shawn Chenoweth, Matt McGrath, Paul Pepper, Nick Tooley, and Connor Maltese.
Archibald grabbed the advantage on the opening lap, with Passer and Morrison side-by-side for second. Passer got the spot on Lap 2, as Hawn battled McAllister for fourth ahead of Tiemersma. Behind them, Chenoweth and McGrath ran side-by-side for seventh in front of Pepper, Tooley, and Maltese. McGrath got the spot on Lap 5, but Chenoweth was back immediately a lap later with another challenge.
Ahead of them, McAllister moved into fourth on Lap 7, bringing Tiemersma through with him a lap later, to bump Hawn back to sixth in front of Chenoweth, as Pepper now ran side-by-side with McGrath. Tiemersma then got alongside McAllister for fourth on Lap 10, with Pepper clearing McGrath a lap later. Tiemersma’s challenge was also successful, as he grabbed the spot on Lap 12 ahead of McAllister.
With 14 laps on the board, Archibald led ahead of Passer and Morrison, but it was not set to last. Passer would get alongside Archibald for the top spot at the halfway mark, making the pass for the lead a lap later. Morrison ran third followed by Tiemersma, McAllister, Hawn, Pepper, Chenoweth, and McGrath. Tooley got alongside McGrath for ninth at Lap 19, with Pepper challenging Hawn for sixth a lap later. Pepper got the spot on Lap 21, ahead of Hawn, Chenoweth, with McGrath staying in front of Tooley and Maltese.
Tiemersma would try to make a late race move, getting alongside Morrison for second with just eight laps to go. Unfortunately, his move was not successful, as he fell back in line, right on the No. 83’s bumper.
