INNISFIL, Ontario — Another race season has started for SKLD Motorsports, and it seems the unfortunate mixed luck experienced by teammates has followed into the new year at Sunset Speedway.
Austyn Jennett and Andrew Shilling were both fast from the first green flag of 2022, placing third and fourth respectively in the first heat. Karlie Wilman was in a different qualifier, scoring a seventh.
Jennett and Shilling carried the momentum into the second of qualifying for another pair of top-five results, while Wilman was unable to take the green flag as a result of mechanical difficulties.
The SKLD Motorsports team tried in-between the qualifiers and feature to get the issues fixed on the No. 14, though unfortunately were unable to find the cause of Wilman’s mechanical gremlins. As a result, she was forced to sit on the sidelines.
The boys would put on a show for her to watch, though, battling amongst the front runners throughout the full feature event. Despite experiencing mechanical issues in the closing laps of the 20-lap affair, Jennett pushed through for sixth, while Shilling scored a ninth-place result.
SKLD Motorsports will hope to utilize the early week off in the schedule to their advantage to get everybody ready to go ahead of Spring Velocity on May 22.
