INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite a couple issues throughout the evening, Jake Spencer-Walt was still able to walk away from the first event of the 2022 campaign at Sunset Speedway with a top-five.
Spencer-Walt rolled off second for his qualifying heat to start off the afternoon, and battled for the lead until slight contact with a fellow competitor saw him go around for a spin. Unfortunately, the chain came off in the process, ending his race early.
He would hope to rebound in the feature from the fourth starting spot, making his way up to third in the early stages. He would look to make a move for second, though unfortunately caught a bump, resulting in a series of hops and the chain falling off once again. He would make his way down pit road to the attention of his crew for repairs, returning to the track to put down some more laps, before ultimately having to end his race early with mechanical issues.
He would be credited with a fifth-place finish for the night.
Spencer-Walt will hope to turn around his luck in his next appearance behind the wheel of the Jr. Late Model.
