INNISFIL, Ontario — The effort behind the scenes to put together a solid Pro Late Model program appears to be paying off for Rick Spencer-Walt, as evident by a podium finish in his first race of 2022.
Spencer-Walt showed speed from the initial drop of the green flag, posting the fourth quickest lap during the qualifying session.
Starting on the second row for the 50-lap feature, he would avoid contact right off the drop of the green flag when another competitor spun ahead of him. Restarting on the front row, he would battle for the lead on the restart, though ultimately fell in line in second.
Through the course of the long green flag run, he would not lose touch of the leader in looking to make a challenge back in return. A late-race caution opened up an opportunity to make a move for the top spot, though ultimately Spencer-Walt fell back to third with two laps to go as a result of a bump from a fellow competitor.
Spencer-Walt will be back at Sunset Speedway on May 21 for the first APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series of Ontario event of 2022.
