It was a battle throughout the 35-lap feature, but it’d be Danny Benedict picking up the win in the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Following the first feature on the night, Travis Hallyburton started pole ahead of Al Inglis, Robbie Sikes, Paul Geniole Jr., Danny Benedict, Kendra Adams, Mike Wilkinson, Thayne Hallyburton, Gord Shepherd, Dwayne Baker, Brandon Feeney, Daniel Montanari, Chris McIssac, Stefan Semeraro, Paul Maltese, and Rick Spencer-Walt.
Travis Hallyburton jumped out to the early lead, with Sikes and Benedict side-by-side for second, as Geniole and Adams battled for fourth ahead of Wilkinson and Thayne Hallyburton. Benedict moved into second on Lap 4 ahead of Sikes and Geniole, with Baker alongside Adams for fifth. Baker took the spot on Lap 6, with Geniole alongside Sikes a lap later.
The race’s first caution came out on Lap 8 as a result of Wilkinson spinning in turn four. With 28 laps to go, Travis Hallyburton led Benedict, Sikes, Geniole, Baker, Shepherd, Adams, Thayne Hallyburton, Spencer-Walt, Montanari, Feeney, Semeraro, McIssac, Wilkinson, and Inglis.
The restart brought forth a bit of chaos, with a three-wide battle in the top-five. Travis Hallyburton managed to stay ahead of the chaos, leading the field ahead of Benedict, Geniole, Baker, and Adams. Spencer-Walt made his way up to sixth ahead of Shepherd, with Sikes and Feeney side-by-side for eighth ahead of Montanari, as Thayne Hallyburton battled McIssac for 11th.
Feeney took the eighth spot on Lap 12, with the caution coming out three laps later for Sikes slowing in turn two with a flat tire. With 24 laps to go, Travis Hallyburton led Benedict, Geniole, Baker, Adams, Spencer-Walt, Shepherd, Feeney, Montanari, McIssac, Wilkinson, Thayne Hallyburton, Semeraro, and Sikes.
The restart would see contact between Travis Hallyburton and Benedict, with Benedict tagging Baker, and Baker climbing the wall. Baker would then stop on Lap 17, producing the event’s third caution as he done for the event. The restart went no better, with Geniole breaking a driveshaft in turn two. With 19 laps to go, Travis Hallyburton led Benedict, Spencer-Walt, Adams, Shepherd, Montanari, Feeney, Wilkinson, Semeraro, Thayne Hallyburton, Sikes, McIssac, and Inglis.
Travis Hallyburton got a good restart ahead of Benedict, with Adams and Spencer-Walt side-by-side for third ahead of Shepherd and Feeney, as Montanari and Wilknson battled for seventh. Benedict would get alongside Hallyburton for the lead on Lap 19, but was unable to complete the pass as the battle for third continued. Shepherd continued to run fifth ahead of Wilkinson, with Feeney and Thayne Hallyburton side-by-side for seventh ahead of Montanari, Sikes, McIssac, Inglis, and Semeraro.
With 11 laps to go, Travis Hallyburton continued to lead ahead of Benedict, as Adams and Spencer-Walt continued to battle for third ahead of Shepherd, Wilkinson, and Thayne Hallyburton, with Montanari and Feeney side-by-side for eighth. Benedict would get alongside Travis Hallyburton for the lead on Lap 26, completing the pass three laps later as Spencer-Walt moved into third ahead of Shepherd, Adams, Wilkinson. Shepherd would then get alongside Spencer-Walt with a couple laps to go.
Danny Benedict picked up the win ahead of Travis Hallyburton, Rick Spencer-Walt, Gord Shepherd, and Mike Wilkinson. Thayne Hallyburton finished sixth, followed by Daniel Montanari, Brandon Feeney, Robbie Sikes, and Chris McIssac. Al Inglis finished 11th, followed by Stefan Semeraro, Kendra Adams, Paul Geniole Jr., Dwayne Baker, a nd Paul Maltese.
