Gord Shepherd Leads Flag-to-Flag in Late Model Feature at Sunset Speedway

Starting the feature from the pole, Gord Shepherd led flag-to-flag en route to winning the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature at Sunset Speedway.

With the invert following the first feature, Shepherd started pole ahead of Kendra Adams, Paul Maltese, Nic Montanari, Al Inglis, Danny Benedict, Ron Quesnelle, Connor James, Mike Wilkinson, Rick Spencer-Walt, Nick Goetz, Lane Zardo, Jo Lawrence, Chris McIssac, and Lorne Quackenbush.

Shepherd took the early lead ahead of Adams, Maltese and Inglis as Quesnelle, Montanari and Benedict went three-wide for fifth. Quesnelle got the spot on Lap 3, bringing Spencer-Walt through with him as Montanari and Benedict battled for seventh. Benedict got the spot one lap later, allowing James to get alongside Montanari for eighth.

Spencer-Walt looked to continue moving forward, getting alongside Quesnelle for fifth. He was unable to complete the pass, falling back in line as they passed the lapped car of Quakenbush. Benedict ran seventh ahead of James, with Goetz and Zardo side-by-side for ninth. Spencer-Walt would try again to pass Quesnelle at Lap 8, but was once again unable to complete the pass.

As Shepherd continued to stretch out his lead, Maltese got alongside Adams for second at Lap 10, completing the pass a lap later, bringing Inglis through with him to bump Adams back to fourth. Quesnelle would then get alongside her at Lap 12, completing the pass a lap later, and bringing Spencer-Walt, Benedict and Goetz through with him as James tagged the back of Adams. Lawrence moved up into eighth ahead of James, and Adams. Zardo would then get alongside Adams for 10th at Lap 16.

Halfway through the feature, Shepherd continued to lead as Inglis got alongside Maltese for second, with Spencer-Walt alongside Quesnelle for fourth. Maltese held him off, allowing Spencer-Walt to get alongside Inglis for third at Lap 18, as Benedict got alongside Quesnelle for fifth ahead of Goetz. Meanwhile, Adams would make her way down pit road.

Spencer-Walt snagged the third spot at Lap 20, with Quesnelle looking to follow him through. Spencer-Walt then got alongside Maltese for second a lap later, with the battle for fourth continuing. Spencer-Walt took second on Lap 22 ahead of Maltese, Quesnelle and Goetz as Lawrence battled Inglis for sixth. Quesnelle would then get alongside Maltese for third at Lap 24 ahead of Goetz, Lawrence, Benedict, Inglis, James and Zardo.

Quesnelle took the third spot on Lap 27, but Goetz was right there to get alongside for position ahead of Lawrence, Maltese, and Benedict. Benedict would get alongside Maltese for sixth at Lap 28. The battle for third took an interesting turn with five laps to go when Goetz tagged the back of Quesnelle, sending the No. 57 up the track sideways. Goetz took the spot on Lap 31, with Lawrence following him through for fourth. Quesnelle now ran fifth ahead of Benedict, Maltese, and James.

Gord Shepherd led the rest of the way en route to taking the win ahead of Rick Spencer-Walt, Nick Goetz, Jordan Lawrence, Ron Quesnelle, Danny Benedict, Paul Maltese, Connor James, Al Inglis, Billy Zardo, Mike Wilkinson, Nic Montanari, Chris McIssac, Lorne Quackenbush, and Kendra Adams.
