MILLGROVE, Ontario — Starting at the front, Shae Gemmell did not look back as he led flag-to-flag en route to winning the third round of the Grisdale Showdown Series at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, July 4.
The past Grisdale Triple Crown Champion was fast in qualifying, posting the second-quickest lap behind Jake Sheridan, who had won the first two rounds of the Showdown Series. Sheridan topped the chart with a lap of 15.264 seconds ahead of Gemmell (15.342), Billy Schwartzenburg (15.412), Kevin Albers (15.481), and Blair Wickett (15.528).
Though come time for the 50-lap feature, it was all Shae Gemmell as he held the lead through all 50 laps of the event en route to the checkered flag. Billy Schwartzenburg turned an invert of three into success as he ran in the runner-up position throughout the event, with Jake Sheridan completing the podium.
Blair Wickett and Shawn Chenoweth were fourth and fifth ahead of Dale Shaw, Brady Smith, Kevin Albers, Billy Zardo, and Hudson Nagy; Nagy was in attendance filling in for Tyler Di Venanzo. Chad Corcoran was 11th, followed by Kevin Gallant and Connor Maltese.
Mike Podd took the lead on Lap 2, and did not look back en route to winning the first Grindstone Landscaping Canadian Vintage Modified feature ahead of TJ Marshall, Alexandria Ditner, Scott Tonelli, and Ty Riopelle. Mike Klotz ran inside the top-three for the first half, fading back to sixth in front of Jay Linde, Steve Murdoch, Mark Rioux, and Jordan Ramsbottom. Dustin Hood and Chris Pendlebury completed the field.
TJ Marshall picked up another checkered flag in winning the second Canadian Vintage Modified feature ahead of Mike Podd, Scott Tonelli, Ty Riopelle, and Jay Linde. Alexandria Ditner made a late-race charge for sixth in front of Steve Murdoch, Chris Pendlebury, Mark Rioux, Dustin Hood, and Mike Klotz.
Mike Norris won the opening Ontario Pro Challenge feature after taking the lead with five laps to go ahead of his father Tim Norris, Mike O’Connell, Emma Norris, and Colton Clark. Blake Near was sixth in front of Jae Pepin, Maddux Pepin, Ethan Fleet, and Mike Gilmore. Sterling Hattin and Travis Majuery rounded out the field.
Colton Clark scored his first career Ontario Pro Challenge Series feature victory ahead of Sterling Hattin, Tim Norris, Ethan Fleet, and Blake Near. Emma Norris battled to a sixth in front of Maddux Pepin, Mike Norris, Jae Pepin, Mike O’Connell, and Mike Gilmore.
Matt Young continued to rack up the victories by taking the checkered flag in the first Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stock feature ahead of Shawn Taylor, Bobby Mercer, Blaise Shaw, and Mike Thomson. Louis Mehlenbacher was sixth in front of Madisson Tienkamp, Luke Goodfellow, and Andrew Smith.
Blaise Shaw took the lead on Lap 4 en route to winning the second Mini Stock feature ahead of Shawn Taylor, Matt Young, Mike Thomson, and Louis Mehlenbacher. Maddisson Tienkamp improved upon her first feature finish with sixth this time around, in front of Andrew Smith, Luke Goodfellow, and Bobby Mercer.
Matt Young picked up another checkered flag, this time in the opening feature for the Hogan Law & McClurkin Properties of Cambridge Pure Stocks ahead of Chase Mitchell, John Cote, Rick Mitchell, and Spencer Riddell. Leo Labarbera ran inside the top-five most of the event, slipping back to sixth in front of Chance Rogers, Rodney Rutherford, Megan Mitchell, and Rachel Mitchell. Hailey Hill was 11th, followed by William Young, Mark Allan, Cam Thomson, and Brandyn Milligan.
Matt Young went for the daily double on the night ahead of Spencer Riddell, Brandyn Milligan, John Cote, and Megan Mitchell. Chance Rogers was sixth in front of Cam Thomson, Mark Allan, Rachel Mitchell, and Rick Mitchell. Leo Labarbera was 11th, followed by William Young, Chase Mitchell, Hailey Hill, and Rodney Rutherford.
The next event at Flamboro Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, July 11, featuring the APC Auto Parts United Racing Series, alongside a combination race for the Dayco Super Stock Series and Steel City Super Stocks.
