MILLGROVE, Ontario — Making his way to the lead just before the halfway point, Shawn McGlynn led the rest of the way to capture the victory in the Iron Man 100 for the Ontario Sportsman Series at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, June 13.
After laying down the fifth quickest time in qualifying, McGlynn found himself in the fourth spot through the opening laps of the 100-lap event, moving into third on Lap 16. He then made his way forward slowly, taking over the lead just before halfway on Lap 45. Although he had a pair of teammates closely in toe, he was able to maintain the top spot and pick up the checkered flag.
Jade Franklin, who picked up a victory with the series earlier this year, was the runner-up ahead of top qualifier and Two Speed Motorsports teammate Connor James. Todd Shepherd and Austin Seburn rounded out the top-five ahead of Ricky Willigar, Kevin Gallant, Kevin Trevellin, Kyle Istead, and Copper Auvrtin. Doug Cathcart was 11th, followed by Donavin Clark, Nathaniel Greenway, Jordan Wilms, Derek McCoullough, Samie Morency, Kaden Patrick, and Chad McGlynn.
Matt Young took the lead on Lap 2 of the first Klotz Auto Repair Mini Stock feature, leading the rest of the way en route to the victory ahead of Mike Thomson, Tyler Lewis, Ryan Edwards-Kiss, and Bill Pearsall. Shawn Taylor was sixth in front of Andrew Smith, Louis Mehlenbacher, Dustin Goodfellow, and Bobby Mercer.
Matt Young swept the night in winning the second feature ahead of Mike Thomson, Tyler Lewis, Shawn Taylor, and Ryan Edwards-Kiss. Dustin Goodfellow was sixth in front of Andrew Smith, Louis Mehlenbacher, Bill Pearsall, and Bobby Mercer.
Matt Young kept the winnings coming, taking the lead on Lap 16 to win the first Hogan Law & McClurkin Properties of Cambridge Pure Stocks feature ahead of Spencer Riddell, Megan Mitchell, Chase Mitchell, and Rodney Rutherford. Brandyn Milligan battled his way forward for sixth in front of Chance Rogers, John Cote, Leo Labarbera, and Rick Mitchell. Gary Slama cracked the top-10 after starting deep in the field, but fell back late for 11th, followed by Cam Thomson, Mark Allan, Rachel Mitchell, Randy Rodgers, Zack James, William Young, Sarah Penny, and Dan Storey.
Gary Slama was able to take the lead at the halfway mark, pacing the rest of the way en route to picking up the checkered flag in the second Pure Stock feature ahead of Chase Mitchell, Matt Young, Rick Mitchell, and Wayde Thorne. Spencer Riddell made his way up through the field after starting outside the top-10 for sixth in front of Rodney Rutherford, Leo Labarbera, Cam Thomson, and Brandyn Milligan. Chance Rogers ran up front early, but fell back through the field for 11th, followed by Rachel Mitchell, Mark Allan, Megan Mitchell, Randy Rodgers, Zack James, William Young, Dan Storey, and Sarah Penny.
The next event at Flamboro Speedway is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, featuring the Steel City Super Stock Series, Ontario Pro Challenge Series, Mini Stock, and Pure Stocks. It is also the track’s annual Cruise Night.
