PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — When it seemed destined for Wally Wilson to put in one of his best Just Foam It OSCAAR Modified performances to date, everything fell apart virtue of a mechanical issue.
Wilson was fast from the very beginning of the night, as evident by scoring a runner-up finish in the first heat. He was unable to make up much ground in the field in the second qualifier en route to fifth.
Starting outside pole for the feature, he slotted himself down in line in second, looking ready to ride in the runner-up spot as he put a gap between himself and third. There would be an early race caution for a spin on the frontstretch, with Wilson pulling out of line on the ensuing restart and fading to the back of the pack. He then made his way down pit road.
It was determined post-race that the clutch was slipping on the restarts as a result of an oil leak. He was scored in the ninth position.
Wilson will be back behind the wheel of the No. 69 Modified in a couple weeks at Sauble Speedway on Saturday, August 19.
