INNISFIL, Ontario — Jake Spencer-Walt may be behind the wheel of a new car for the 2023 season, but he has not lost the speed shown en route to the Sunset Speedway Jr Late Model Championship last year. The title defense kicked off in style, as he picked up a hat trick.

It seemed starting at the back or front of the qualifier did not matter for the multi-generation racer, as he quickly made his way to the front on both occasions before the halfway mark. Once he got there, he drove away both times to score a pair of heat wins.

Come feature time, it was the same song, new chapter in watching the No. 31 find his way to the front quickly, driving away from the competition as he weaved his way through the lap traffic ahead. He weathered it all, crossing the finish line with the feature win.
