INNISFIL, Ontario — There are certain veterans across the province that have a lot of know-how behind the wheel, and Dwayne Baker is one of those. It’s why he was able to find his way to Super Stock victory lane at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night.
Cory McAllister won the first heat ahead of Nick Tooley, Johnny Morrison, Dwayne Baker, Todd Davenport, Matt McGrath, Cole Borrows, and Coltin Everingham. The race did not go without incident, as McGrath got into the outside wall while battling for the lead with a couple laps to go, and Connor Maltese pulled off with issues.
Todd Davenport was victorious in the second qualifier in front of Baker, McAllister, Morrison, Tooley, Maltese, Burrows, Everingham, and Robb.
With qualifying in the books, Cory McAllister started pole in front of Johnny Morrison, Nick Tooley, Todd Davenport, Dwayne Baker, Cole Burrows, Matt McGrath, Connor Maltese, and Coltin Everingham.
The drop of the green flag saw McAllister and Morrison battle for the lead, with Morrison getting the top spot on Lap 2, as Tooley ran third with Baker and Davenport side-by-side for fourth. Tooley then headed down pit road, thinking he was the car getting blackflagged for mechanical issues. That was not the case, as he was sent back on-track, with McGrath heading down a lap later – done for the event.
Morrison was unable to run and hide, with McAllister looking for a way around him on Lap 11, with Maltese by Burrows to crack the top-five at the same time. McAllister got alongside a lap later, though was unable to complete the pass – with Baker looking for away by with having gotten by Davenport. Baker got alongside McAllister for second on Lap 14, easily completing the pass a lap later, as Everingham challenged Burrows for sixth.
The eyes focused on the front of the field with Baker alongside Morrison for the lead at the halfway mark, taking over control of the event three laps later. Morrison tried to challenge back, offering a small love tap to the No. 48 but was unable to get alongside. McAllister was also able to get by Morrison, taking over second with five laps to go.
Dwayne Baker picked up the win in front of Cory McAllister, Johnny Morrison, Josh Davenport, and Connor Maltese.
