PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — After being crowned the 2022 Sunset Speedway Jr Late Model Champion, Jake Spencer-Walt took his talents on the road and showed why he’s one of the talents to watch in the coming years in Ontario. Between three features ran at two different tracks the past two weeks, he was able to score a trio of podium finishes.
Posting the second fastest lap in time trials at Flamboro Speedway on October 1, he’d battle side-by-side for the third position in the early stages, escaping a spin ahead of him. The spin allowed him to move up into second, where he’d challenge for the lead following a restart with six laps to go. Getting a little loose off the corner, he’d come up just a bumper shy of scoring the victory.
Taking the green from 12th in the second feature, he’d work his way up to eighth in the opening lap, running second when the third caution came out on Lap 3. He’d get a good restart to take over the top spot, pacing the field the rest of the way en route to capturing the feature.
He’d carry the momentum to Peterborough Speedway, showing speed in the heats including a trip to victory lane, setting him up to start second for the feature. He’d challenge for the lead throughout, even capturing the top spot on a mid-race restart, but ultimately lost in the later stages en route to finishing second.
It is worth noting despite traveling to three different tracks throughout the season, Spencer-Walt picked up 12 top-five finishes in 2022.
