Checkers or Wreckers – Jessica James Comes Back From Crash for Victory

PETERBOROUGH, Ontario — There’s only one way to describe the year that Jessica James has had – checkers or wreckers. If she’s not holding the black and white flag, she’s picking up the pieces from an issue.

As she was crowned champion at Peterborough Speedway, she started off the feature by flipping on her side. Though once they got the midget right side up, she made her way through the field to score the feature victory.

Dave Bradley won the first heat in front of Russ Couture, Mike Bradley, Larry Lawson, Rob Harrison, Kayla Semple, and Jason Metcalfe.

Jessica James was victorious in the second qualifier ahead of Dan Kviring, Jamie Bound, Rob McCall, Kevin Spiez, and Darryl Anthony, with Dave Inglis failing to finish.

Dave Bradley went for the daily double, followed by Mike Bradley, Metcalfe, Harrison, Couture, Lawson, and Semple.

Jessica James did the same in front of Bound, McCall, Kviring, Spiez, and Anthony.

Come feature time, the event got off to a messy note with Jamie Bound getting into the outside wall, followed by Rob Harrison doing the same. The result was a chain reaction involving several cars, including Jessica James getting tipped on her side. The other cars involved included Russ Couture, Dan Kviring, Jason Metcalfe, Larry Lawson, Kayla Semple, and Dave Inglis.

The second attempt was clean with Rob McCall pacing the field in front of Harrison and Couture, with Kviring and James both getting by Couture on Lap 2. James continued to move forward, getting alongside McCall for the top spot on Lap 3 as Harrison ran third, with Mike Bradley and Kviring side-by-side for fourth in front of Couture.

Jessica James took the top spot on Lap 6, with the caution flying a lap later for Inglis going through the frontstretch grass. With six laps on the board, McCall led James, Harrison, Mike Bradley, Kviring, Couture, Dave Bradley, Metcalfe, Lawson, Spiez, and Semple.

Jessica James got a good restart to take the advantage in front of McCall and Mike Bradley, with Harrison and Summers side-by-side for fourth in front of Dave Bradley. Couture got the spot on Lap 9 in front of Harrison, Bradley, Kviring, Metcalfe, and Spiez. The caution then came out two laps later for Lawson stopping on the frontstretch.

Jessica James got a good restart with Mike Bradley taking over second in front of Harrison, Couture, McCall, Dave Bradley, Metcalfe, Kviring, and Spiez. Couture got alongside Harrison for third on Lap 18, taking over the spot. McCall’s strong run came to end on Lap 20 with the left front wheel breaking.

Jessica James led the rest of the way en route to victory in front of Mike Bradley, Russ Couture, Dave Bradley, and Rob Harrison. Dan Kviring placed sixth, followed by Jason Metcalfe, Kevin Spiez, Larry Lawson, and Darryl Anthony. Kayla Semple was 11th, while Rob McCall, Dave Inglis, and Jamie Bound failed to finish.
