INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite dealing with pain from a torn ACL injury sustained in the past week, Rick Spencer-Walt was able to fight through for a podium finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.

Spencer-Walt showed speed in the No. 31W Late Model from the beginning of the night, laying down a lap of 14.074 seconds for the quickest time of the session.

Following the invert, he would start fourth for the 100-lap feature, and not waste any time making progress forward. He would take over third on Lap 10, followed by the runner-up spot just two laps later. He would track down the pole sitter and current race leader, getting alongside for the top spot. He was able to edge him out at the line to be credited first when the caution flew a lap later.

Restarting on the front row, he would get a good restart, and begin to pole away from the field. There would be another couple quick cautions to follow over the next 30 laps, but once again, Spencer-Walt asserted his advantage for the time being.

Though as the race drew past the halfway mark, the car would begin to get a little loose for Spencer-Walt, resulting in his advantage shrinking in the top spot. He would be challenged for the lead by the current series points leader on Lap 68, and ultimately passed for the top spot two laps later.

Despite losing the advantage, he put together a solid 30 laps to complete the event, crossing the finish line with a second-place finish. The result moves him up to fourth in the points with four top-five’s and five top-10’s this year, 29 points out of the lead with two races remaining.

The eighth race of the APC Series schedule is set to take place at Sauble Speedway on Saturday, August 28.
