Rick Spencer-Walt Scores Pair of Podium Finishes at Sauble Speedway

SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — The season of solid performances continues for Rick Spencer-Walt, with a pair of podiums at Sauble Speedway this past weekend.

Spencer-Walt began the weekend by posting a lap of 14.285 seconds in time trials on Saturday evening, qualifying him sixth for the United Racing Series event. Though with the invert in play for the Stewart’s 100, he’d ultimately start fourth for the 100-lapper.

He would drop back in the early stages, running as low as ninth by Lap 14 as he tried to save his equipment and tires for the second half of the event. As the event closed in the halfway mark, he began to march his way back forward, breaking back into the top-five with just 36 laps on the board. He would bounce around a bit during the middle portion of the event, looking to gain positions where he could, but also conscious of the overall race distance.

After gaining a couple spots when the leaders tangled ahead of him in the late stages, he found himself locked in a battle for the runner-up spot as the race neared the conclusion. Despite trying a series of different moves from the book of tricks, he’d come up short at the line, crossing the finish line in third. The result places him sixth in the points with three top-five’s and four top-10’s this year, 28 points out of the lead with three races remaining.

He returned to Sauble on Sunday for their yearly Beat the Heat event, ready for another 100 laps. He was fast right from the start of the evening, posting a lap of 14.444 seconds in qualifying to put him fourth on the board this time around.

He once again started off the 100 lapper in solid fashion running up front amongst the contenders, making a move with just 26 laps on the board to take over third. He would try to reel in the leaders through the second half of the event, though was unable to. As a result, he crossed the finish line with a third-place finish.

The seventh race of the APC Series schedule is set to take place at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, August 13.
