SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Showing speed throughout the night, Jake Watson was able to pick up a checkered flag and a top-10 finish at Sauble Speedway.
Watson was fast from the beginning of the night, scoring a fifth in his first heat. He then ran inside the top-three throughout the second qualifier, escaping an incident ahead of him to score his first checkered flag of the 2022 campaign.
Starting third in the feature, he grabbed the advantage off of the drop of the green flag to lead the first eight laps of the feature, before being passed by the eventual race winner. He’d remain second until the race’s first yellow flag at Lap 10, though got stuck on the outside of the restart as he faded back to third. He continued to battle hard, running fourth as of the second yellow flag with 10 laps to go.
Stuck on the outside for the final restart, he fell back a couple more spots, ultimately crossing the finish line with a sixth-place finish.
It marks his second straight top-10 finish following an eighth at Sunset Speedway, placing him in a three-way tie for second in the series standings. He also currently leads the Rookie of the Year standings.
Watson will be back behind the wheel of the No. 88 Modified on Saturday, June 25 at Sunset Speedway.
