INNISFIL, Ontario — After being forced to run the team’s back-up car, John Bird would bounce back with a win on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
The night started off a little messy with Austyn Jennett around in turn two. Andrew Shilling picked up the win ahead of Matt Boyes, Jordan Owen, Jennett, Karlie Wilman, Brian Booth, and Zach Harrison.
Matt Boyes won the third heat ahead of Shilling, Jennett, Booth, Owen, Harrison, and Wilman.
Brandon Steele went for the daily double ahead of Bird, Cole, Lusk, Reed-Charles, and Reesor.
Come feature time, John Bird started on pole ahead of Craig Cole, Matt Boyes, Andrew Shilling, Brandon Steele, Aundrea Lusk, Austyn Jennett, Jordan Owen, Brian Booth, Calvin Reesor, Cheyenne Reed-Charles, Karlie Wilman, and Zach Harrison.
John Bird would break out to the early lead ahead of Cole, with Boyes and Shilling side-by-side for third, with Steele running fifth ahead of Jennett and Lusk. Boyes would move into third on Lap 3, bringing Steele, Jennett and Lusk through with him. Boyes then got alongside Cole for second three laps later, as Wilman headed down pit road with issues.
Boyes moved into second on Lap 7, with Steele trying to follow him through but unable to do so. Jennett continued to run fifth ahead of Lusk, with Booth and Owen side-by-side for seventh ahead of Reed-Charles, Reesor, and Shilling. Owen got the spot on Lap 13, though received the black flag two laps later for smoke coming out of the car. Reed-Charles would get sideways on Lap 16 allowing Reesor to challenge for eighth, and completing the pass with a couple laps to go.
John Bird led the rest of the way for the victory ahead of his son-in-law Matt Boyes, with Brandon Steele making the late pass on Craig Cole for third. Austyn Jennett rounded out the top-five ahead of Aundrea Lusk, Jacob Booth, Calvin Reesor, Cheyenne Reed-Charles, and Zach Harrison. Andrew Shilling finished 11th, followed by Jordan Owen and Karlie Wilman.
