SAUBLE BEACH, Ontario — Starting on the front row, Jaden Riddell got the lead off the drop of the green flag and didn’t look back en route to scoring the victory in the first round of the Ontario Midget Challenge for the Living Lighting OSCAAR Pro Sprints.
Wayne McKibbon started pole ahead of Jaden Riddell, Richard Woodland, Ryan Battilana, Tyler Cullen, James Stanley, Ryan Wardell, and Brad Holmes. Unfortunately, Holmes did not start out as he would’ve hoped, pulling off with a mechanical problem on the opening lap.
Riddell would scoot away with the lead after the end of the first lap, with Battilana slipping into second ahead of Cullen. Cullen made his move, though, passing Battilana for second on Lap 3. Battilana now ran third ahead of Stanley, McKibbon, and Wardell. The race would not go green to checkered without a caution, as the yellow flag flew on Lap 5 for Woodland stopping in turn two.
Riddell got a good restart, scooting out ahead of Cullen, as Stanley and Battilana battled for third. Stanley got the spot on Lap 7, with McKibbon rounding out the top-five. While it looked as though Cullen may have a chance to close in on Riddell for the top spot with the laps counting down, he’d slow with two laps left due to a motor issue. it marked the team’s second motor problem of the weekend, finding an issue as they were loading the car to come to the track and needing to make a change when they arrived.
Jaden Riddell scored the victory ahead of James Stanley, Ryan Battilana, Wayne McKibbon, and Tyler Cullen. Ryan Wardell finished sixth, followed by Richard Woodland and Brad Holmes.
The Living Lighting OSCAAR Pro Sprints will be back in action for the second round of the Ontario Midget Challenge at Sunset Speedway on September 19. Once again, the Outlaw Midgets will be welcomed to compete alongside the Pro Sprints.
