Through the years, only three drivers have gotten the honor of calling themselves a Living Lighting OSCAAR Pro Sprint Champion. Jordan Hanna held those coveted honors in 2017.
“I’m glad to see OSCAAR continue to bring out the fans for the past 30 years and going,” he commented. “It was fun being a part of the series for the 3 years I raced, met a lot of people and raced on some nice tracks.”
For Hanna, he was brought onto the OSCAAR scene due to aspirations of wanting to try asphalt, following 18 years of dirt competition.
“This series used the same cars we used to race on dirt but with some modifications,” he explained.
Right from the drop of the green, it seemed Hanna found the speed he needed, running up front with the best the series had to offer.
“I found the competition was great among some racers,” he said. “ I always enjoyed going through lap cars with someone tailing me. The car count was good and features were fun especially at Flamboro and Sauble beach.”
The opportunity allotted him the chance to race against some of the biggest names in sports, including J.R. Fitzpatrick, as he calls their duel together at Flamboro Speedway his fondest memory.
“It was a successful night and I felt like a superstar,” Hanna reflected. “My dad and I did this for many years and it was nice to bring home a championship as well.”
As noted, Hanna was able to hoist the series championship in 2017 after scoring eight feature victories, 10 heat wins, and 12 feature top-five’s.
“It means a lot coming from dirt and using some skills from dirt to bring on the asphalt,” he said. “I definitely used some drifting techniques to my advantage, which isn’t used as frequently on asphalt.”
