INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite entering the season with excitement of her rookie campaign, Shiann Wilman was forced to scale back her schedule due to health reasons.
Through the bulk of the summer, the SKLD Motorsports driver faced health issues that led to many sleepless nights and back pain, among other side effects, resulting in her sitting on the sidelines cheering on her teammates. Thankfully, the cause has been determined with Wilman scheduled for surgery in the upcoming days.
“The biggest thing that stood out to me with having a lot of different day/ nights spent in the car was whether it was practice or race time, was having to adjust to the car always changing,” she said. “Whether it was a different time in the day or temperature in general, it was crazy to me how fast the car could feel so different.”
She also noted that she was able to learn about how to be respectful on-track around fellow competitors, and how important that is.
“Things happen very fast and there isn’t much time to correct,” she added. “Also things look a lot different in the driver’s seat, so when I see an opportunity while in the car, I should take it.”
After the disappointment of this year, Wilman is excited to get back at it next season on a full-time basis, continuing the learning curve. She says she will enter the 2020 with an open mind, focused on gaining confidence and having fun racing against her fellow competitors.
Through the tough times, Wilman and SKLD Motorsports deeply appreciate the support from their sponsors -SGCG Motorsports, D’s Original Smoke Shack, Foster Motorsports, Mary Kay Cosmetics, RB Graffix, and EPIC Racewear.
