INNISFIL, Ontario — Despite the night not starting off as smoothly as warranted, Ron Quesnelle was still able to gain valuable points on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
During practice prior to qualifying, the No. 57 Late Model developed a mechanical issue, ending their night early. Fortunately, Paul Geniole Jr. and McColl Racing Enterprises offered to run Quesnelle’s car number on their late model so Quesnelle would get some points on the night.
Geniole would lay down a lap of 14.952 seconds in time trials to qualify seventh for the first 35-lap feature, running solidly there through the opening laps until contact with a fellow competitor on Lap 10. Restarting from the tail of the field, Geniole avoided an incident ahead of him on the restart to move up to 13th. He would keep the progress going on the second restart, moving into eighth by the halfway mark of the feature.
Despite trying to continue moving forward, he was unable to do so before rain ended the feature five laps short of the scheduled distance, being credited with an eighth-place finish.
Starting fourth in the second feature, Geniole remained there through the opening eight laps, avoiding contact ahead of him to move up into third by the race’s second caution at Lap 12. Although he’d avoid another incident on the restart, his feature would end early as a result of breaking the driveshaft. He would be credited with a 14th-place finish.
With 15 top-10’s on the season in 16 features, including the season-best second, Quesnelle sits fourth in the championship standings.
