INNISFIL, Ontario — The dream season continued for Rick Spencer-Walt on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway, with another trip to victory lane.
Spencer-Walt would set the quickest lap (14.791 seconds) in time trials, though dropped back to the runner-up spot in the early stages of the feature, remaining there until the race’s first caution at Lap 14.
The restart would see Spencer-Walt battle side-by-side for the lead, with Spencer-Walt clearing Travis Hallyburton and pulling away with the advantage. He would not be home free, though, as the yellow flag waved again on Lap 22.
Although Spencer-Walt got a good restart, he was not able to pull away with Hallyburton all over his back bumper through the final laps. The battle went down to the checkered flag with Spencer-Walt getting his fifth victory of the 2019 campaign.
Starting 10th in the second feature, he would work his way up to eighth by the race’s first caution at Lap 11. Restarting on the fourth row, he’d get stuck behind a slower car for a couple of laps, but managed to make up some ground through the race’s second half, up to sixth with 10 laps to go. There’d be one more caution before the race’s completion with five laps to go, with Spencer-Walt making the move three-wide to finish fourth.
To date, with 16 features now in the books for the 2019 campaign, Spencer-Walt has scored five wins, six runner-ups, a pair of thirds, a pair of fourths, and a seventh. As a result, he currently leads the track division standings.
He is also currently leading the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I Provincial Standings, and is 13th in the national standings (despite some United States competitors having ran twice the amount of features), just 12 points out of the top-10. Notably, he is the highest ranked Canadian in the standings.
Spencer-Walt will be back in action on Saturday, September 7 for the next night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division I competition at Sunset Speedway.
Though this weekend on Saturday, August 31, he will be at Jukasa Motor Speedway behind the wheel of a McColl Racing Enterprises Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model.
