It came down to a late race restart, but it’d be Dwayne Baker edging out Rick Spencer-Walt to win the Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature at Sunset Speedway.
Rick Spencer-Walt posted the quickest time in qualifying, timing in quickest with a lap of 14.769 seconds ahead of Travis Hallyburton (14.816), Dwayne Baker (14.887), Ron Quesnelle (14.889), and Danny Benedict (14.905). Kendra Adams was sixth quickest, followed by Mike Wilkinson, Daniel Montanari, Gord Shepherd, and Al Inglis. Thayne Hallyburton qualified 11th, followed by Robbie Sikes, Ernie Fumerton, Paul Maltese, Stefan Semeraro, Chris McIssac, Brandon Feeney, and Lorne Quackenbush.
From the third-place starting spot, Baker made his way around Travis Hallyburton for second, and remained there until a late-race caution on Lap 26 for Quackenbush going around in turns one and two. Restarting on the front row with nine laps to go, he’d initially gain the advantage on Spencer-Walt, before the pair got back side-by-side with two laps to go. It came right down to the flag, with Baker edging out Spencer-Walt by 0.496 seconds.
For Dwayne Baker, it marks his second win of the 2019 season that has seen him place in the top-five on five other occasions. Points leader Rick Spencer-Walt finished second for his 11th top-five, followed by Travis Hallyburton, Danny Benedict, and Ron Quesnelle.
