INNISFIL, Ontario — Set to put together a solid night under his belt, Robbie Sikes would go around for a late-race spin at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night.
Sikes started off the night solidly, scoring a runner-up in the first qualifier, followed by a fourth in the second heat.
Starting third for the 50-lap feature, Sikes ran solidly inside the top-five through the opening laps, running sixth as of the first caution at Lap 19. Restarting on the outside of the third row, he would fade back to seventh over the course of the middle of the race. Unfortunately, he would be unable to remain in the top-10, going around for a spin with three laps to go.
Restarting at the tail end of the field, he would get back up to 12th by the end of the event.
For SIkes, it marks the third straight weekend placing outside of the top-10 due to incidents. The team has proven that they can run up front, as evident by a pair of top-10 finishes for the rookie on opening night.
With twin 35-laps feature on deck for Saturday, July 27 at Sunset Speedway, Sikes will hope to combine patience with speed, and be there when it counts at the checkered flag with a solid run.
