London, Ont. (May 17, 2019) – Persistent rain across Ontario this spring has wreaked havoc on racing schedules and has forced us to delay the start of the SOS season yet again.
Our race at Brighton Speedway for Saturday May 18th has been POSTPONED until Saturday May 25th.
High water levels in Lake Ontario once again have the regular pit area used by SOS teams underwater. And while in years past when we’ve been able to relocate to higher ground, at this time that option is currently not usable due to the soft ground from the wet spring weather.
On top of the parking issues the track crew is concerned about actual track conditions. “The track was rough last week and with out getting even 24 hours of dry weather any day this week we have not been able to work the track as needed” track surface expert Gary Vandertoorn said. “We want to give the sprint cars the smoothest, best track we can and we were not comfortable that will be the case on Saturday.
With already losing opening night at Merrittville Speedway in April, the SOS have worked with Brighton Speedway to postpone round #2 of the 2019 season to the following week on Saturday May 25th instead of cancelling the event altogether. Early registration membership pricing will be extended to the 25th as well.
