Darren Dryden Scores T.Q. Can-Am Midget Feature Victory at Sunset Speedway

Ryan Fraser started pole ahead of Dominique Smith, Cassidy March, Cory Whittam, Steve Murdock, Darren Dryden, Brandon Zavarella, Brandon Hauck, David Miller, Paul Harrison, Brody Rickwood, Daniel Hawn, and the 89.

Fraser jumped out to the early lead, with Dryden quickly making his way up into second ahead of March. However, the caution would come out on Lap 2 for Harrison going around in turn two.

The restart would see a battle for the lead between Fraser and Dryden, with Fraser grabbing the initial advantage ahead of Dryden, Whittam, and Zavarella. Zavarella continued to move forward, taking the third spot on Lap 4, bringing Murdock through with him. The race would then be slowed down again, though, with the second yellow flag coming out on Lap 5 for the 89 slowing in turns three and four.

The restart saw another battle for the lead between Fraser and Dryden, with Fraser once again holding serve, as Zavarella, Murdock, and Smith rounded out the top-five ahead of Whittam and Hauck. This time, though, Dryden didn’t let Fraser get away, getting back alongside him on Lap 9 for the lead. Dryden would take over the lead a lap later, bumping Fraser back to second ahead of Zavarella.

Murdoch continued to move forward, passing Zavarella for third on Lap 11, before the caution came out on Lap 12 for Harrison going for another spin, this time in turn four.

The restart saw a battle for the lead between Dryden and Fraser, with Dryden taking the top spot on Lap 13 ahead of Fraser, with Zavarella, Murdock and Smith rounding out the top-five. Behind them, Whittam ran sixth ahead of Hauck, Hawn, Miller, March, and Rickwood. Hauck tried to get by Whittam for sixth at Lap 17, but was unable to complete the pass.

The final yellow flag of the feature would come out with five laps to go, as Fraser went around in turns three and four.

Darren Dryden got a good restart, pacing the field the rest of the way en route to the checkered flag ahead of Steve Murdock, Dominique Smith, Brandon Hauck, and Brandon Zavarella. Cory Whittam finished sixth, followed by David Miller, Cassidy March, Brody Rickwood, Paul Harrison, and Ryan Fraser. Unfortunately, Hawn’s top-10 run was spoiled by a spin on the last lap.
