With S2RT Racing’s primary driver Curtis Stewart on vacation, he has pegged past G.D. Coates Used Car Superstore Mini Stock Division Champion Cameron McGlashan to drive the No. 6 Mini Stock for Sunset Speedway’s opening night.
“I’m just hoping to have a clean night, run the best we can, but put the car in the box in one piece,” McGlashan said. “If I can help Curtis learn a few things and improve his program as well it’ll be a good week.”
McGlashan was able to get some laps this past week in the car ahead of this weekend’s 25-lap feature.
“It went pretty good,” he commented on Tuesday. “We only got about 10 laps in it before Curtis had to leave but it felt pretty good and my times were not too far off of his for my first time in a front wheel drive car. We’re gonna head back to the track Wednesday night with some newer rubber and try to get some more seat time for me.”
The opening night is expected to be busy at Sunset Speedway with several top contenders expected to be making an appearance.
“The division grows and improves every year as times just get faster and faster,” he said. “The 81 (Samantha Shaw) & 23 (Tyler Seaboyer) looked pretty fast at practice and (Dylan) Holmes was a threat last year, so should be an exciting year to watch.”
Although McGlashan has yet to finalize any plans beyond opening night yet, there is a possibility he will run the first two nights for Stewart “depending on when he lands next Saturday from his trip.” He also stated that is in discussions with a friend of his, and hopes to have plans firmed up in the next week or so ahead of Spring Velocity.
