INNISFIL, Ont. — Battling hard from the drop of the green flag, Ron Quesnelle scored a top-five finish on Saturday night at Sunset Speedway.
Qualifying eighth for the first 35-lap feature, he’d make his way up to seventh in the early stages, running there when the caution came out on Lap 10. Restarting just outside of the top-five, he’d drop back to eighth, getting alongside Al Inglis for seventh at the halfway mark. He was unable to complete the pass, though, dropping back in line in eighth. Although he would be challenged in the late stages, Quesnelle was able to hold on to score an eighth-place finish.
Starting seventh for the second feature following the re-draw, Quesnelle went three-wide for fifth on Lap 2, coming out on top with the position. He’d remain solidly in the top-five, getting alongside Kendra Adams for fourth at Lap 12, completing the pass a lap later. He’d fade back to fifth in the middle of the feature, but a pass on Al Inglis put him back up to fourth at Lap 22. He’d continue to move forward, passing Paul Maltese for third at Lap 27.
Unfortunately, that isn’t where he’d finish, as a bump from behind with five laps to go from Nick Goetz sent Quesnelle up the track sideways. Quesnelle managed to hang onto the No. 57 Late Model, but slipped back to fifth in the process. He held on through the last couple of laps, crossing the finish line in fifth.
Quesnelle will be back in action on the next night of points racing at Sunset Speedway, which will be Saturday, July 21.
