As you start a race season, it’s one of those unwritten rules – do not think about the end of the year, yet, because before you know it, all the racing will be done and we will be back to where we are now. But sometimes, you just can’t help it as let’s face it, short track playoffs are some of the best times we have in motorsports.
Sunset Speedway has become one of the premiere stops as part of those playoffs, essentially kicking off the party with their Velocity 250, which leads to Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest and then Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic. The Sunset party is about to get bigger.
Grand Bend Speedway announced on Wednesday that the Jr. Late Models and Pro Mini Trucks will be part of the Velocity 250 weekend in 2018.
This past season, the event was huge, including numerous divisions – Super Late Models, Late Models, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Eastern Ontario Legends Series, OSCAAR Modifieds, OSCAAR Hot Rod Series, Outlaw Midgets, Ontario Pro Challenge, and Lucas Oil T.Q. Can-Am Midgets. Although it’s not confirmed yet that all of these divisions are returning, one could assume that they will based on previous years and schedules that have been released. Plus, add in the OSCAAR Pro Midgets as they have been confirmed per the release from OSCAAR. If you’re keeping track, we are up to 13 divisions in the span of two days. Can you say a race fan’s dream?
So, let’s just take a deep breath, get through the winter, and get the year started in April. Because like I said, I want to savor every moment so I’m not suffering withdrawals like now.
