Jordan Hanna Puts Together Dream Season En Route to Championship

With one of the most memorable feature win streaks that will go down in history, Jordan Hanna put together a stellar campaign en route to being crowned the 2017 OSCAAR Pro Midget Champion.

“We started very strong this year, and it was an amazing season,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “It became more of a challenge to keep that first place in points especially near the end of the season.”

From the drop of the first green flag at Peterborough Speedway in May, Hanna showed he was the early favourite for the championship, scoring a convincing victory. He then carried the win streak forward, winning nine of the next 10 features.

“The absolute most memorable moment was at Sauble when (Daniel) Hawn and I were battling for the win and crossed the checker side by side for the win within inches,” he recalled.

It seemed everything was set to go down as he wanted without a single issue, but the wheel coming off followed by wall contact at Flamboro Speedway resulted in a pair of 10th-place finishes, putting everything in jeopardy, But Hanna didn’t let that get him down, scoring three straight runner-ups to complete the season and win the championship by nine points over Daniel Hawn.

“I think we are a great series – lots of competition and good drivers who put on an amazing show,” he said. “This will continue to grow hopefully in the right direction.”

While certainly taking time to celebrate the accomplishments this season, there are eyes already focused on 2018 and what’s to come in the third season for the Pro Midgets. For Hanna, he feels it will get even better with “more cars and competition in 2018, which will be great for fans.”
