Gord Shepherd Dominates Late Model Feature at Sunset Speedway

After being involved in an incident in the first event on Saturday night, Gord Shepherd rebounded to dominate the second 35-lap Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Late Model feature at Sunset Speedway.

Following the first race, Jordan Latimer started pole this time around ahead of Chris Morrow, Gord Shepherd, Kendra Adams, Thayne Hallyburton, Randi Seguin, Mike Wilkinson, Paul Maltese, Ron Quesnelle, Nick Goetz, Taylor Holdaway, Travis Hallyburton, and Rick Spencer-Walt.

The feature started off with a quick spin for Travis Hallyburton, but he was able to keep going without a caution. The focus was on the front of the field, with Morrow and Latimer side-by-side for the lead. Latimer got the top spot on Lap 2, with Shepherd moving up into second a lap later ahead of Morrow, Thayne Hallyburton, Adams, Fumerton, and Maltese.

Thayne Hallyburton would get alongside Morrow for third on Lap 5, but the caution flew a lap later for Quesnelle spinning in turn four. He tried to make a move underneath Gresel, but there wasn’t enough room, causing a bottle up with Holdaway tapping his bumper enough to send him around. With 30 laps to go, Latimer led Shepherd, Morrow, Hallyburton, Adams, Fumerton, Maltese, Wilkinson, Goetz, Gresel, Spencer-Walt and Travis Hallyburton.

The first attempt at a restart resulted in another yellow flag as a result of a flat left front tire for Thayne Hallyburton.

The second restart went clean, featuring a battle for the lead between Latimer and Shepherd, with Shepherd taking the top spot on Lap 7 ahead of Latimer and Morrow, as Adams and Maltese went side-by-side for fourth. Maltese got the spot, getting alongside Morrow for third two laps later.

With 11 laps on the board, Shepherd led Latimer, Maltese, Morrow, Goetz and Adams. Goetz continued to move forward, passing Morrow for fourth on Lap 13, before getting alongside Maltese for third. Adams then got alongside Morrow for fifth at Lap 15 ahead of Spencer-Walt, Fumerton, Quesnelle and Thayne Hallyburton.  Goetz would clear Maltese for fourth on Lap 17 ahead of Morrow, Spencer-Walt and Adams.

Spencer-Walt then got alongside Morrow for fifth at Lap 19 ahead of Adams, with Travis Hallyburton alongside Fumerton for eighth. Hallyburton got the spot, getting alongside Adams for seventh at Lap 22, with Spencer-Walt clearing Morrow a lap later. Hallyburton moved up into seventh ahead of Adams, Fumerton and Quesnelle. Hallyburton then got alongside Morrow for sixth at Lap 25, completing the pass a lap later.

The climb continued for Spencer-Walt, as he’d get alongside Maltese for fourth on Lap 28, completing the pass a lap later. Hallyburton then got alongside Maltese for fifth with five laps to go, completing the pass a lap later. Maltese now ran sixth ahead of Morrow, Fumerton and Quesnelle, with Adams and Gresel side-by-side for 10th.
