After starting off the afternoon with high hopes of a strong performance in his homecoming to Sauble Speedway, it seemed nothing would go right mechanically for Wally Wilson Racing throughout the event.
While the team had originally planned to take all three racecars in their fleet to the beach, the modified was left at home as a result of the engine issues still undergoing repairs from the last event. Still, hopes were high with both the OSCAAR Pro Midget and OSCAAR Midget loaded in the trailer.
Behind the wheel of his OSCAAR Midget, he started off the night solidly by posting a third-place finish in the first 15-lap feature. Unfortunately, the second feature saw the secondary clutch go out, resulting in Wally Wilson having to pull off the track before the race’s completion.
Behind the wheel of his OSCAAR Pro Midget, he started off solidly once again, posting a fourth-place finish in his first heat. Unfortunately, one of the gears came off the car in the second heat, breaking the chain. With no time to fix the car between the heat and feature, Wilson was left on the sidelines for the main event.
While admitting it was great racing at his home track, he said “it was tough to watch races I should be in from the pits.” He also credited the new owners for the work they have already put in, saying it’s “very exciting time to see the changes happening at the track. Can’t wait to see what the future holds!”
Wilson will be back behind the wheel of his OSCAAR Pro Midget this weekend (July 8) at Grand Bend Speedway, after the event got rained out on June 17. The rest of the month then includes an Outlaw Midget event at Sunset Speedway on July 15, OSCAAR Modified events at Kawartha Speedway (July 21) and Full Throttle Motor Speedway (July 23), followed by his third visit of 2017 to Flamboro Speedway to complete the month on July 28.
