Following a successful debut campaign, the Outlaw Midgets are set for a 10-race sophomore schedule for 2017.
Making their debut last year, the Outlaw Midgets were able to bring full fields of midgets to the track in each event that they hosted, putting on shows which saw competitive three-wide racing at each turn. In the end, it was Jody Bound putting in a dominant performance all season long en route to taking home the championship.
Following a test and tune at Sunset Speedway on April 30, the Outlaw Midgets will kick off their season “tentatively” at Sunset Speedway on May 20 as part of the track’s two-day Spring Velocity weekend, which features plenty of different divisions packed into a pair of days. Whether they race that night for certain at Sunset is yet to be determined, but they will for sure be at the Innisfil, Ontario oval a month later on June 10. If all the dates for Sunset Speedway go as planned, the track will attend the speedway on six occasions, versus five last season.
Following the month of June, their season will kick into high-gear in July. They will first make an appearance at Sunset Speedway on July 15, before traveling south of the border to the United States and racing at Chapel Hill Speedway. While last year’s schedule saw them travel south of the border to Holland on a pair of occasions, this year just features one trip with Capital Hill now on the calendar.
The month of August is busy, starting off with back-to-back events at Sauble Speedway on Civic Holiday weekend (August 5&6). Notably, their dates at Sauble have increased from just one last year to three in 2017. They will then return to Sunset Speedway on August 12, before heading back up to Sauble on August 26.
Their season will then cap off with two more events at Sunset Speedway – September 2 and September 24. Notably, when they crown their champion on the 24th, it will be apart of Sunset Speedway’s year-end special Velocity 250, which features eight different divisions across two days of racing.
