Todd Morey can now call himself a stadium victor as he took home the victory in the Saturday night Wheelie Competition at the Rogers Centre.
Following racing qualifying, the top-eight are allowed to continue in the racing bracket, while the bottom six are sent to Wheelie competition.
Mike Thompson in Wrecking Crew started off the competition, putting together one good wheelie straight-up through the middle of the floor, along with another small one. He’d score 25 points for his effort.
Mike Vaters in Black Stallion was the second truck to hit the track, however didn’t put together anything impressive. As he made a couple trips around the stadium, there was a couple small jumps mixed in for a score of 16.
JR McNeal in Xtermigator followed the trend, making four big jumps en route to a score of 22.
The name of the game, wheelies, returned to the frame when James Garner took the track in Over Bored. He put together a pair of air wheelies for a score of 24 points.
Devin Jones in Barbarian then followed it up with a semi-wheelie for a score of 21.
The man of the competition, though, was Todd Morey in Bounty Hunter. He put together two wheelies, both mid-air while remaining straight up as he came down the one ramp. As a result, he was awarded for his efforts with a score of 35.
“I got kicked off racing so I had to win something,” Morey said. “This is my first big stadium win. It feels great. Thank you, Toronto.”
With Morey getting the wheelie competition win, it breaks the strangle hold Thompson had on the competition as he won the event in Tampa and Orlando.
In addition to the happenings, this writer has to admit that the fan decibel meter as a judge isn’t great to be using during the wheelie competition. Rather than judging for each wheelie, the fans would scream even without any wheelies if they saw air happening. As a result, as you may have noticed, it swayed some of the scores above than what they possibly should’ve been.
