“Wow!?!” “Did you hear how loud that was?” “Did you see how high he jumped?” “There’s a girl driver?!?”

One of the many reasons why many people enjoy going to Monster Jam shows is they’re perfect for the whole family to attend. Though for a special group of kids, they got a preview of this weekend’s action on Friday at the Rogers Centre.

As part of the Jays Care Foundation, a group of 12 kids – known as the “Jays Care Home Run Scholars” – got to watch each of the trucks make a practice run ahead of the two-day show this weekend, and spend some time with four of the drivers.

Home Run Scholars, a partnership between Jays Care and Toronto Community Housing, is an after-school program that helps youth in low-income communities by working with children to improve academic performance, enhance physical health, enhance social and emotional well-being and improve student behaviour during after school hours.

As part of the event, Coty Sauicer, Ryan Anderson, Becky McDonough and Carl Van Horn each spent some time with the children, talking about what it’s like to drive a monster truck, and more. While the children enjoyed the thrills, for the young ladies in attendance, there seemed to be a bonus in the air in getting to meet one of Monster Jam’s big female stars, Becky. As soon as she took to the track in El Toro Loco, the faces lit up with cheers and screams, wanting to get the chance to spend time with her.

Once the event was done, it was easy to tell the kids had fun based on the smiles as they left the Rogers Centre. It was also clear that the racing action will be close throughout the weekend with six drivers under the 21 second bracket already, with three drivers even in the 19 second bracket.

Check out photos from the meet-and-greet below, and remember – it is not too late to buy your tickets for either of the events this weekend.

Ticket prices start at $20, while Pit Party Passes are available for purchase for $10. Tickets and Pit Passes are available at the Rogers Centre Box Office, all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.ca, and at (855) 985-5000

The Pit Party will be held pre-show both days, giving fans the chance to see the massive Monster Jam trucks up close, meet drivers, take pictures and get autographs. To access the Pit Party, event ticket and Pit Party Pass must be presented upon entry.
