MILLGROVE, Ontario — While doing pre-season interviews, Dale Reinhart admittedly had one race circled on the schedule that he wanted to win more than other – the Brian McLean Memorial at Flamboro Speedway. He brought a fast car to the track this past weekend at Frostoberfest and was able to make that happen in dominating fashion with the Overkill Enterprise OSCAAR Modifieds.
The current series points leader found himself starting on the second row after a strong qualifying effort, wasting no time in taking over the second-place spot. He then stalked the race leader Steve Trendell for a series of laps, making his move and taking over the lead on Lap 15. He led the remainder of the 47-lap feature en route to visiting Knightworks Design victory lane.
McLean was a driver that spent his entire racing career involved with the modifieds, whether driving or crewing for his son, and Reinhart knows that well with having been involved with the OSCAAR Modifieds for now 10 years. It was why back in April, he recalled a memorable moment with McLean from his first career victory at Sauble Speedway.
“We were kind of struggling in practice, and we made a couple small changes, and we were talking about some set-up stuff,” Reinhart shared in April. “He was kind of shaking his head, like ‘I don’t think that’s gonna work’, and then we went out and ended up winning the race; that was our first win ever. Brian came round to the back of the car, and he just kind of lifted his hat and was just scratching his head and had a grin ear-to-ear on his face, and I will never forget that moment. It was pretty cool.”
Jason Keen found his way to the front after taking The Car Guy green flag from the third row, and looked as though poised to close in on Reinhart for the race lead. He came up short in his bid, crossing the finish line in second-place. Bryan Batty picked up a third-place finish ahead of Rick Burbridge and Brent McLean.
Early race leader Steve Trendell faded back for a sixth-place finish in front of Matt Haufe, Amanda Balson, Coltin Everingham, Ryan Dick, and Rodney Rutherford. Wally Wilson was blackflagged for leaking fluid early in the event, and with no cautions, he was unable to return, ultimately rounding out the field.
Heat wins went to Dale Reinhart and Rick Burbridge.
The next race for the Overkill Enterprise OSCAAR Modifieds is at Peterborough Speedway as part of the Autumn Colours Classic weekend. Qualifying will take place on Saturday, October 10th, with the feature scheduled for Sunday, October 11. They will be joined by The Fyre Place & Patio Shop OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Just Foam It.
