INNISFIL, Ontario — After showing speed throughout the day, Rick Spencer-Walt scored a top-10 finish in the Dayco 150 to open the APC United Late Model Series season at Sunset Speedway this past Sunday.

Spencer-Walt showed speed in qualifying to kick off the show, putting down a lap of 14.307 seconds to place him third on the board. However, when the drivers drew for their inverted starting position in front of the packed grandstands, the defending race winner pulled the number one chip out of the hat.

Starting on the pole, he settled inside the top-three through the opening 23 laps, keeping pace with the leaders. He’d ultimately fade back another two spots to fifth in the next eight laps, knowing it was a long race. It was why the team tried to take advantage of the competition caution at Lap 75 and make the necessary adjustments.

With a couple drivers staying out, Spencer-Walt restarted from the seventh position looking to regain lost ground. Unfortunately, the handling would not be his liking through the remaining laps of the event. Ultimately, he’d fade back another spot, scoring an eighth-place finish.

Through three races this season (two features at Flamboro, 1 APC Series event), Spencer-Walt has scored a top-five with his worse finish being the eighth on Sunday.

Spencer-Walt returned to the track on Monday, set to drive the No. 99 Modified for ADAMS Motorsports. Unfortunately, qualifying did not go as warranted with the transponder not picking up. Starting tail of the field did not slow him down, as he made his way into the top-five relatively quickly. He’d catch the next pair on-track, though was unable to find a way by before the checkered flag waved in the 50 lap feature.

Spencer-Walt will be back behind the wheel of the No. 31w Late Model on June 10, 2023 at Flamboro Speedway for the second round of the APC Auto Parts United Late Model Series of Ontario season.
