LONDON, Ontario — Battling hard all weekend at Delaware Speedway, Jake Watson was able to score a pair of top-10 finishes.
Watson started off the weekend on the first day of the double-header on Friday by picking up a 10th-place finish in his heat, setting him up to start 18th for the 30-lap feature. He was able to escape the big wreck down the backstretch on the opening lap, as well as an incident ahead of him a couple laps later.
Running fourth following the restart, he battled hard through the rest of the feature, crossing the finish line in fourth.
He carried the momentum into Saturday, scoring a runner-up finish in the qualifier to start fourth for the feature. He moved up to second off the drop of the green flag, ultimately fading back to third by the first caution at Lap 4. He battled hard on the restart, though began to fade back with having a tire start to go bad.
Despite the adversity, he continued to race hard to the checkered flag, ultimately scoring an eighth-place finish.
It marks his fifth straight top-10 finish, placing him fourth in the series standings. He also currently leads the Rookie of the Year standings.
Watson will be back behind the wheel of the No. 88 Modified on Saturday, July 23 at Sunset Speedway.
