2021 Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods Champion – Steve Book

With having scored 34 consecutive top-10 finishes dating back to Sunset Speedway in May 2018, the consistency has always been there for Steve Book. He can now call himself a Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rod Champion, having accomplished the feat this past season.

Kicking off the year with a heat victory at Sunset Speedway, he battled inside the top-five all feature long en route to a fourth. Returning to the Innisfil facility two weeks later, he was unable to repeat the feat, ultimately crossing the finish line in seventh.

Fortunately, he got the season back on-track with the series’ annual dirt trip to Brighton Speedway. Relying on previous experience, he snagged the top spot on Lap 5 and did not look back with a dominating performance. An opportunity struck to start sixth a week later at Sauble Speedway when qualifying was rained out, as Book battled for the top spot in the early stages. He ultimately faded back to third, making a late-race pass to finish second.

The positive momentum followed him to Peterborough Speedway, where he turned another heat victory into running top-three all feature long for a third.

Following three-week break, Book returned to Sunset Speedway for another heat victory, taking the lead in the feature following an early-race battle. He led 17 laps, before fading back to third at the halfway mark. His perseverance paid off as when the leaders got ahead of him in lap traffic, he squeaked by for a runner-up finish.

Known for success at Delaware Speedway in their Enduro’s, everybody had the Studebaker Hawk circled as one of the favorites to challenge for the victory. The prediction proved true as he took the lead on Lap 13, pacing the next handful of laps before fading back to second. A repeat from a week before, being in the right spot at the right time proved crucial, as he retook the top spot on the last lap to score the win.
He ran inside the top-five all feature long at Flamboro Speedway, missing the late-race spin for a fourth. Book then capped it off at Peterborough Speedway’s Autumn Colours Classic with another win, running inside the top-three all race long and challenging for second, prior to placing third to capture the championship.

Known as one of the nicest gentleman in the division, Steve Book is someone that a lot of competitors agree will make a great representative for the series as a champion moving forward. There’s also excitement in seeing how many more numbers he can add to the record books in the years ahead.
The 2021 OSCAAR Hot Rod season is sponsored by Knightworks Design and The Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park Campground.
