Kyle Fetterly Ready to Live Out OSCAAR Dreams

When the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods ran their inaugural campaign in 2017, it caught the attention of people around the province. The interest only expanded, with Kyle Fetterly becoming interested.

“I have been wanting to get into the OSCAAR Hot Rod series since 2018,” he commented. “I love the idea of touring to different tracks. I haven’t had a chance to run most of the tracks currently on the schedule, and this series is a great way to do that.”

He will get to live out his OSCAAR dream, having purchased the No. 47w Rambler Ambassador from Tom Walters following the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Famer’s run with the series last season. Fetterly notes the team has elected to leave the same wrap and number on the car for 2021, choosing to spend their money on a different venture – getting a second entry for his friend John Lavelle to run.

The Peterborough Speedway regular has been instrumental in Fetterly’s career from the beginning, dating back to his racing beginnings in 2016.

“John helped me get started in mini stock in 2016,” Fetterly explained. “He had been around racing in one way or another since he was a kid. I had followed racing my whole life, but had no idea how to get started/involved and what was needed to make a car quick.”

Now set to battle together on-track, the pair are excited for the year ahead, as Fetterly hopes the season is able to run mostly as scheduled, despite the current COVID situation.

“Both me and John have decent quality cars; Tom Walters did well in the car I’m running this year, so there’s no reason we can’t expect good results,” he said. “I just need to learn cars and tracks as quickly as possible and translate that to a good performance on the track.”

Looking at the current schedule, Fetterly admitted has circled the series’ return to Kawartha Speedway on the calendar, saying he had a blast there running a different car previously.

Though another event which stands out would be the Autumn Colours Classic weekend. Fetterly’s admit his first trip to ACC in 2018 featured his most memorable racing moment to date.

“It was my first time being at three day event like that and the atmosphere was so crazy,” he recalled. “I had an absolute blast and ran one of the Lavalle Racing’s Bone Stocks that weekend. Most fun I’ve had during a race weekend so far.”
