Interviews

“They Said What?” Sunset Speedway Pure Stock Edition

Sometimes when you stick a microphone in front of a driver’s face, you have no clue what they may say and a couple of times you’ll hear something that surprises you or gives you a bit of a perspective.

Throughout the 2020 season, I had the opportunity to speak to a bunch of different competitors. During those interviews, there were some quotes that stood out. So it seems only fitting we take a glance back through the year at what was said.

“I love racing in a big field, although this is the biggest field I’ve ever ran in. But with the actual list, there are some drivers I’ve competed against before, and some drivers I haven’t ran against before. There is gonna be some very tough competition but my goal is to just finish well and keep the car all in one piece.

“Either way, it will be a good time but what I am most excited about is finally getting to race against my dad. After all last year trying to convince him to race against me just once, it’s not very often I get to say I beat my dad’s butt at something. Looking forward to running against my teammates again, although were missing a few cars from our team. I’m just thankful that we are getting the opportunity to get to race.” – Karlie Wilman

“It also provides that much needed experience on how to race around others while also improving as a driver. I have also attended Sunset Speedway as a fan for years so it’s a natural track for me to begin my stock car racing career.” – Zach Harrison

“Looking back, I want to be able to overcome the adversity and be out of the drama. I just want to focus on having fun with my teams and be able to race our race.” – Andrew Shilling

“As I look back on 2019, I can’t believe what an incredible season we had. We exceeded all my expectations from 2018 and came home second in points. In 2019, I think I made my mark and proved that I belonged there. We struggled a lot in 2018, having no experience and having no seat time prior starting the season.

“This year I did my homework and put everything I had into my racing program to make it better. I can’t take all the credit though; my dad put endless hours into the car and never quits. I worked so hard this year and learned that hard work really pays off.” – Aundrea Lusk

“I am very excited to race with all my friends and family. It’s definitely not easy having so many cars on one team and five coming from one household. It has proven it takes so much dedication and drive. It’s a lot, but who wants life to be easy?” – Shiann Wilman

“The competition in bone stocks should be a lot closer then what it is. I may get hate for this, but they aren’t Bone STOCK anymore. People like to find grey areas in the rules and it’s unfair to the ones that do it the way it should be. But other then that, i’s a great place for none stop action. The mixture of talents makes it a blast.” – Eric Stewart
