Steve Book Dominate En Route to Second Straight OSCAAR Hot Rod Victory

Despite drawing an eight on the invert, Steve Book made his way to the front quickly en route to winning the Knightworks Design OSCAAR Hot Rods presented by Sauble Falls Tent and Trailer Park feature at Jukasa Motor Speedway on Saturday.

Book laid down the quickest lap in time trials at 20.782 seconds, ahead of Trevor Thompson (20.916), Tom Walters (21.098), Tyler Hawn (21.194), and Ed Bowlby (21.245). However, he’d draw an eight on the invert, giving the pole position to Jay Doerr.

Jay Doerr would start pole ahead of Paul Senior, Scott Beatty, Ed Bowlby, Tyler Hawn, Tom Walters, Trevor Thompson, Steve Book, Adrian Foster, and Jeremy McLean. Nick Clarke started 11th, followed by Bill Clarke, Dan Rothwell, Bob Parsons, Paul Boundy, Dalen Martin, Darcy Gribbon, Matt Young, and Ryan Cowan.

Doerr jumped out to the early lead, with Hawn and Senior side-by-side for second. Hawn got the spot, with Book challenging Senior for third on Lap 3. Book easily took over the spot, moving into second two laps later. Hawn ran third ahead of Thompson and Senior. Thompson then got alongside Hawn for third on Lap 7, getting the spot a lap later.

Behind them, Senior and Walters ran side-by-side for fifth, with Beatty and Bowlby battling for seventh. Walters moved into fifth on Lap 10, with Bowlby looking to follow him through. He’d be unable to do so, with the caution coming out a lap later for Rothwell going around. With 20 laps to go, Doerr led Book, Thompson, Hawn, Walters, Bowlby, Senior, Beatty, McLean, Nick Clarke, Bill Clarke, Foster, and Boundy.

Book would get a good restart, taking over the top spot ahead of Doerr, Thompson, and Walters, as Hawn and Senior battled for fifth. Senior got the spot, bringing Beatty and Bowlby through with him over the next couple laps. Hawn now ran eighth ahead of Nick Clarke and Bill Clarke, with Foster and McLean side-by-side for 11th. Foster got the spot, with Boundy looking to follow him through.

Closer to the front, Walters would look to challenge Thompson for third on Lap 19, but the caution came out due to Rothwell going up in smoke in turns one and two. Following a red flag to clean up the fluid, Book got another good restart with Thompson moving into second, but the yellow flag resurfaced due to debris in turn three.

Book would get away on the restart, with Bowlby taking Thompson and Beatty three-wide off of turn two second. Bowlby came away with the position ahead of Thompson, with Walters up to fourth ahead of Beatty, as Senior and Doerr ran side-by-side. Unfortunately, Bowlby’s top-five run came to an end when he began to slow with a mechanical issue with five laps to go.

Steve Book led the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Trevor Thompson, Tom Walters, Scott Beatty, and Jay Doerr. Paul Senior finished sixth, followed by Tyler Hawn, Ed Bowlby, Adrian Foster, and Bill Clarke. Paul Boundy placed 11th, followed by Nick Clarke, Jeremy McLean, Matt Young, Dalen Martin, Bob Parsons, Dan Rothwell, Ryan Cowan, and Darcy Gibbon.
