MILLGROVE, Ontario — After qualifying two of their entries into the main show at Flamboro Speedway, SKLD Motorsports saw mechanical gremlins take them out of the event.
Andrew Shilling and Austyn Jennett found themselves both in the same qualifier together, hoping to score a top-five finish. Shilling was battling for fourth when a fellow competitor ran him wide off of turn four into the frontstretch wall slightly. The contact continued down the straightaway, with his fellow competitor going sideways as he lost valuable ground. Jennett, meanwhile, faced mechanical problems as he was unable to find speed. As a result, the pair placed sixth and seventh, missing the transfer spot.
On the flip side, Doug Wilman was quick right off the get go in his qualifier, battling inside the top-three throughout the span of the event with the leaders en route to placing fourth to transfer to the main event.
Virtue of their finishes, Shilling and Jennett was forced to run the b-main together. Shilling ran up front throughout, getting a good final restart in closing laps to jump up to third and transfer to the show. Jennett, found himself caught up in a mid-race incident with a fellow competitor en route to finishing 12th and failing to transfer.
With a pair of entries qualified for the main event, Wilman and Shilling both looked to move forward after starting 22nd and 27th respectively. Wilman was able to move forward from his starting spot, cracking the top-20 in the opening 15 laps and slowly progressing forward. However, he would see his feature end 13 laps shy of the checkered flag due to overheating. Shilling, meanwhile, ran into issues on the same lap, forcing him off the track.
The SKLD Motorsports team will be hard at work making the necessary repairs and changes before returning to Flamboro Speedway on September 5.
