After putting together a pair of successful Mini Stock seasons at Flamboro Speedway, Erik Dalla Riva is ready for the next step of his racing career.
“I am very excited to get the opportunity to run in the APC Series,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “I have followed it closely since I started oval track racing and it was always something I wanted to compete in. Shaw Motorsports is a winning team and builds great cars so I know I can focus on learning and gaining experience.”
Entering his rookie campaign in the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour, Della Riva first priority will be learning as much as he can.
“I am going to be taking things one race at a time,” he commented. “I want to first qualify for all the races we show up to, and then focus on running well and staying out of trouble. I would be pretty happy if we can have some strong finishes towards the front of the field.”
While Dalla Riva is aiming to run as many races as possible, it looks right now as though it will be a partial season for the past Mini Stock Frostoberfest Champion. One of the tracks that you will be certain to see him running will be Flamboro Speedway, where he has spent the majority of the past two years.
“It is the place I have the most laps at,” he reflected. “I know it is a tight, one lane track and it is notoriously tough in a late model but running somewhere familiar will be exciting. If we can secure some more funding, trying to get to one of the rounds at Jukasa will be my top priority. I have always wanted to race there.”
Over the past two years, Della Riva impressed across the province. Last season, he scored seven feature wins and 22 top-five’s at Flamboro Speedway in the No. 72 Mustang, along with a victory at Sunset Speedway in June. The previous campaign, he was able to score 12 top-five’s, highlighted by a victory on August 4, before capping the year off by taking the overall Frostoberfest win.
“I feel very fortunate to have run in some great equipment and learn from some very knowledgeable people,” he reflected. “Spira Racing has such a great development program and I am honored to be a part of it. I can honestly say it was the most fun I have had racing since I was a kid. I am hoping to get back in a mini-stock once or twice this year as well! ”
From go-karting to mini stock racing, Della Riva is certainly building quite the portfolio for himself, and says for those getting started – “I know it sounds super cliché, but never give up and work as hard as you can to get to where you want to go. Remember to have fun along the way too!”
