Zach Harrison Ready for Rookie Campaign at Sunset Speedway

Since their inaugural season, the Signs of Innovation Bone Stocks at Sunset Speedway have seen a steady growth in car count with new faces behind the wheel. This won’t change in 2020, as Zach Harrison has thrown his hat into the ring of drivers competing.

“I am very excited for the 2020 season to begin,” he told SHORT TRACK MUSINGS. “This is my first year racing stock cars and I want to learn as much as possible on and off the track and gain respect from my fellow competitors.”

Entering the racing scene virtue of the Bone Stocks made sense for Harrison, as he feels that it’s the perfect division for drivers to enter stock car racing without breaking the bank.

“It also provides that much needed experience on how to race around others while also improving as a driver,” he added. “I have also attended sunset speedway as a fan for years so it’s a natural track for me to begin my stock car racing career.”

Outside of wanting to gain as much experience as possible, Harrison says his personal goals include “completing the entire season and achieving a top-three,” with consistent finishes each week. He also added that he’d be “blown away with a win,” and noted he may run Peterborough Speedway’s  Autumn Colours Classic.

For Harrison, his interest in racing developed as a child, playing with diecast cars and watching NASCAR with his dad every weekend. During that time, he considered Jeff Gordon his racing hero, as he watched the prime of the four-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion’s career. Though admits that he also looked up to his dad’s favourite driver Dale Earnhardt.

“This was my dad’s favourite driver and I loved his hard charging attitude,” he commented. “I believe both of these drivers were the best of the best and I have always aspired to be like them both on and off the track.”

His fandom led to him beginning to race go-karts at the age of 12-years-old, beginning with Rotax Jr followed by Rotax Sr all across Ontario.

Now set for his first season behind the wheel of a stock car, he’ll hope to have success like his racing heroes.
