PREVIEW: Mini Stock Frostoberfest Invitiatonal at Flamboro Speedway

Dave Bailey, Billy Schwartzenburg, Andy Kamrath, Miles Tyson, Cory Young, and Erik Dalla Riva are proud to call themselves past winners of Frostoberfest. Now this weekend, some of these familiar faces – as well as a field of other contenders will hope to join the list in hoisting a unique carving from George Noah and Hop Issaluk at the end of the night.

The Mini Stocks will invade Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, October 5 for the ninth annual running of Frostoberfest, set to run twin 50-lap features with the best average overall finish determining your event winner.

With a slew of drivers entered for this weekend, here are just some of the stars that you need to keep an eye on.

No. 06 Jason Tolton only ran half of the season at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, but was impressive with two wins and 10 top-10 finishes. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked ninth on week nine.

No. 7 Paul Boyd knows how to win races, scoring a pair of trips to victory lane at Full Throttle with just one finish outside the top-five in 10 feature starts. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked sixth on week five.

No. 10 Will Gibbons showed speed at Flamboro Speedway to start the 2019 campaign, picking up 11 top-five’s with a trip to victory lane. He was also fast at the invitationals, running top-five at Sauble Speedway and Jukasa Motor Speedway. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on five occasions, holding down the top spot on week five.

No. 14 Brian Wilson was the best driver at Full Throttle Motor Speedway this season, winning the championship with a total of 26 top-five’s in 2019. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on eight occasions, holding down the top spot twice.

No. 17 Dylan Sharpe enters the event with momentum after winning the season finale at Flamboro Speedway. In total, he scored three wins and 19 top-five’s this season. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on seven occasions, with a highest ranking of fifth on week 11.

No. 18 Issac Dippel showed his speed all season at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, scoring just three finishes outside of the top-five throughout the year. He also won 10 features, including the track’s year-end special. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on nine occasions, with a highest ranking of third twice.

No. 24 Kyle Steckly may be a rookie, but he is proving that he can run right with the veterans at Flamboro Speedway. In total, he has scored 10 top-five finishes, including a victory in August. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked seventh on week 11.

No. 30 Erik Dalla Riva has been solid this year at Flamboro Speedway, picking up eight checkered flags and 22 top-five’s. In his last hurrah in the mustang before it’s picked up by it’s new owner, he will hope to back-up the performance he delivered en route to winning the event in 2018. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on nine occasions, holding down the top spot twice.

No. 35 Andy Kamrath enters this weekend with momentum on his side after a dominating performance in Sunset Speedway’s Velocity 250 35-lap feature. He is also a past winner, having taken home the prize in 2014 and 2017. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings twice, holding down the top spot on the pre-season edition.

No. 36 Cory Young is coming off a strong season at Full Throttle Motor Speedway with four wins and 21 top-five finishes. He has also hoisted the main prize before, capturing the victory in 2016. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on five occasions, with a highest ranking of third twice.

No. 51 Craig Kamrath hopes to shake things up after running a limited schedule across the province in 2019, solidly running in the top-10 in each feature that he was able to run. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked seventh pre-season.

No. 67 Melissa Bullen has been getting stronger behind the wheel each week, and it showed with a runner-up finish on the final night of points competition at Sunset Speedway. In the last seven features of the year, she showed speed with five podium finishes. She was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked sixth for week 11.

No. 79 Kyle Istead was a solid front runner at Flamboro Speedway all season long, scoring 19 top-10 finishes with three results inside of the top-five. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked ninth on week one.

No. 81 Karl Sault will enter this year’s edition looking to defend his home turf after winning the 2019 Flamboro Speedway Track Championship with 10 wins and 27 top-five finishes. Notably, in the last 11 features of the season, he only finished worse than second on three occasions. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on eight occasions, holding down the top spot twice.

No. 81 Samantha Shaw came close to winning last year’s edition, but fell short with a second-place finish overall. She is entering this year’s edition with tons of momentum after a stellar season at Sunset Speedway that saw her finish top-three in each feature, including five trips to victory lane. She was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings on eight occasions, holding down the top spot on week six.

No. 84 Andrea Parsons enters this event following a solid campaign at Full Throttle Motor Speedway with eight top-five finishes, including a victory on May 4. She was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings once, ranked fourth on week one.

No. 86 Billy Schwartzenburg has not ran a mini stock event this season with his focus being on his team’s pro late model effort in the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Series. But do not let that fool you, as he won this very event back in 2013.

No. 88 Jake Watson is no stranger to victory lane at Flamboro Speedway, winning three times this season with 15 finishes inside the top-five. He was mentioned on the Ontario Mini Stock Top-10 rankings six times, with a highest ranking of second on two occasions.
