INNISFIL, Ontario — It wasn’t a perfect night of competition, but two of SKLD Motorsports’ drivers were still able to leave Sunset Speedway on Saturday with top-10 finishes.
Driving his usual No. 9 entry, Austyn Jennett’s night got off to a rough start as he would be involved in a heat incident with a fellow competitor. He was able to keep going, having the car in good shape for the 20-lap feature. He then battled hard from the drop of the green flag, crossing the finish line in ninth.
Karlie Wilman would get behind the wheel of Andrew Shilling’s previous car, renumbered No. 14, ready to continue improving. She showed progress through the qualifying heats as she got used to her new ride, and battled hard in the feature en route to finishing 10th.
Andrew Shilling debuted a new car for SKLD Motorsports, hopeful of returning to the top-five finishes that the team experienced at the beginning of the year. The qualifying heats proved to be a learning process, and Shilling would start off the feature on a good note. Unfortunately, contact with another competitor mid-race damaged the car, resulting in a 11th-place finish.
Despite the adversity, Andrew Shilling sits fifth in points followed by Karlie Wilman (6th) and Austyn Jennett (8th) with just one night remaining on the 2019 schedule, which is this Saturday, September 7.
