MILGROVE, Ontario — While possibly headed for a career-best performance on Saturday night, Wally Wilson saw his night come to an unfortunate early end when he was caught up in a racing incident.
Wilson started off the night by finishing eighth in his first heat, followed by a sixth in his second qualifier.
Starting 12th for the 40-lap feature, he would move up a spot in the opening couple of laps, running 10th under caution with just 12 laps on the board. Restarting on the sixth row, he would battle hard in hopes of gaining some more ground. However, on Lap 21, a fellow competitor ran into a mechanical issue, spilling fluid all the way through turn three. Wilson would get into the fluid, unable to slow down as he slid up into the turn three wall.
Unfortunately, the contact ended his night early; he was credited with a 13th-place finish.
The team will evaluate their options – whether to repair the car or switch to the back-up – ahead of the next Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modified event, which is the Iron Man 72 at Sunset Speedway on September 21 and 22. Wilson will be behind the wheel before then, competing in the Outlaw Midget event at Sunset Speedway on Saturday, August 31.
